Eco Smart Green Bin - Smart Waste Segregation System Using Arduino
Abstract
Waste management has become a major challenge in urban areas due to rapid population growth, unplanned urbanization, and increased resource consumption. Traditional waste management systems rely on manual monitoring and collection, which are often inefficient, time-consuming, and prone to errors. The lack of proper waste segregation and real-time monitoring leads to issues such as overflowing bins, environmental pollution, and health risks.
To overcome these challenges, this paper presents the design and implementation of an Eco Smart Green Bin, an intelligent waste management system that improves waste collection and segregation. The system uses sensors to monitor the fill level of the bin in real time and identify different types of waste such as biodegradable and non-biodegradable. It also sends alerts when the bin reaches a certain level, ensuring timely waste collection and preventing overflow.
Furthermore, the system promotes automatic waste segregation at the source, supports recycling, reduces manual effort, and enhances overall cleanliness. It can be effectively deployed in public places, educational institutions, residential areas, and commercial spaces, contributing to sustainable waste management and smart city development.
